Framework raises DDR5 module and Laptop 12 prices again
A quiet day for announcements: the one item worth your time is another round of price rises at Framework, which blames its memory suppliers.
Framework puts up DDR5 and Laptop 12 prices
Framework updated its memory and storage pricing post on 6 November. The company says it has used up some of its earlier, lower-cost inventory of DDR5 memory, which it had held steady for the last few months by buffering stock. It has now raised prices on the 16GB, 32GB and 48GB DDR5 modules sold in its DIY Edition configurators.
Framework says it limits increases to what its suppliers charge it. Even after the rise, it says its 16GB and 32GB modules sit within the current retail range and its 48GB module stays below it. Buyers of a Framework Laptop DIY Edition can still bring their own memory instead.
The Framework Laptop 12 is affected as well. Framework has sold out of its original lower-cost pre-built systems with 8GB of DDR5 and has changed the price of both the entry-level Linux and Windows pre-built configurations. The other pre-built configurations and the DIY Edition system prices are unchanged.
Existing pre-orders keep the price from order time, but changing the memory configuration of a pre-order moves that item to the new price. Framework says it will bring prices down again as supplier costs fall or as it finds cheaper memory. The post gives no euro or pound prices for the new figures, so check Framework’s store for what applies in your country.
